Hi-Fi Stereo Speaker Placement Calculator

Find the right TV size, viewing distance, and screen mounting height for your room. Enter the measurements you already know, and the calculator will help determine the rest using TV aspect ratio, resolution, viewing posture, eye level, room depth, and horizontal Field of View.

Build the Right Stereo Soundstage

Set Speaker Base and Listening Distance to form a balanced stereo triangle. The calculator shows the actual Listening Angle and soundstage status.

Place Speakers Around Your Room

Enter room dimensions and adjust distances to the Front Wall and Side Walls. The scaled diagram shows exact clearances and fit.

Position the Listening Seat

Choose Speakers fixed or Listening Position fixed. The calculator shows where to place the sofa or speakers for the selected setup.

Check TV and Equipment Clearances

Add TV, speaker, and sofa dimensions. The calculator determines the minimum Speaker Base and prevents physical overlaps.

1

Choose Your Units and Enter the Room Size

Select Inches, Centimeters, or Meters, then enter the full Room Width and Room Depth. These dimensions define the physical area available for the stereo system.

2

Choose the Fixed Reference

Select what should remain in place: Speakers fixed or Listening Position fixed. This tells the calculator whether it should move the sofa around the speakers or position the speakers around the existing seat.

3

Enter What You Already Know

Adjust the Speaker Base, Listening Distance, Front Wall Distance, and Listening Axis. You can use the sliders or enter exact measurements directly into the number fields.

4

Lock or Optimize the Stereo Geometry

Enable Lock Stereo Geometry to keep Speaker Base and Listening Distance synchronized at the reference listening angle. Leave it unlocked to test different layouts, then use Optimal Base or Optimal Distance to restore the ideal relationship.

5

Add the TV and Equipment Dimensions

Enable Include TV and Speaker Size to enter the TV diagonal or width, speaker cabinet width, sofa size, and minimum gaps. The calculator will include these physical dimensions when checking the available placement.

6

Fit the Setup and Review the Results

Use Fit to Room to place the largest practical reference triangle inside the current room while respecting the selected Fixed Reference and required clearances. Review the scaled diagram, Listening Angle, wall distances, equipment gaps, and placement warnings, then use Copy Image or Save PNG to keep the layout.

Results

All dimensions and positions update from the current room-scale geometry.
Listening Angle — Angle between the left and right speakers at the Listening Position.
Speaker Base — Acoustic-center distance between left and right speakers.
Listening Distance — Distance from either speaker acoustic center to the listener.
Listening Depth — Perpendicular distance from the speaker line to the listener.
Speakers from Front Wall — Speaker acoustic-center position measured from the Front Wall.
Listening Position — Listener position measured from the Front Wall.
Side Wall Clearance — —
Rear Wall Clearance — —
Equipment Constraint Not applied Enable equipment dimensions to calculate physical cabinet and TV limits.
Reference geometry follows ITU-R stereo placement principles. Boundary interaction still depends on the loudspeaker and room.
